Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral therapy allows us to become explore how specific situations impact our functioning. It is not the situation itself that contributes to challenges but the interpretation of the situation that impacts our reactions. In therapy, you will learn to identify everyday thinking patterns that lead to pain and suffering that can be psychological, physical, or both. When we identify these thinking patterns and learn to re-shape our thinking through cognitive restricting we are able to change our associations with the thoughts and can navigate stressful situations more effectively.

Thoughts tend to be on rapid fire most of the time and we are rarely ever present with our thoughts when we are engaging with the world. However, through CBT we learn to recognize automatic thoughts that can be adversely affecting our mental, physical, and emotional state. Mindfulness is an effective tool that allows us to stay more cognizant of our automatic thoughts, and irrational thoughts that tend to influence how we operate in the world.

Here is a short video from therapist aid to help illustrate CBT.
