Founder & Clinical Director: Dr. Anupama Kommu

Dr. Anu Kommu is a licensed clinical psychologist and founder of Mind Body Connection, Inc., specializing in integrating mind-body interventions for holistic well-being. With a deep commitment to compassionate and mindful care, she works with adolescents, young adults, and older adults in both individual and group settings. Her research interests include incorporating mind-body interventions along with technology to alleviate pain, improve sleep and reduce hypertension and improve overall mental and physiological well-being.

Dr. Kommu holds a Doctorate (PsyD) and Master’s (MS) in Clinical Psychology from The American School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC, and a Bachelor’s (BS) in Clinical Psychology from Methodist University. Additionally, she is certified in biofeedback and neuromeditation, specializing in mind-body interventions for holistic well-being.

She is a certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) with advanced training in Medical/Cardiac Yoga, Mindful Yoga for Cancer, and Yoga for Seniors, she incorporates deep breathing, relaxation, and slow gentle movement, as well as mindfulness for both short- and long-term health benefits.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Kommu mentors postdoctoral candidates and doctoral students, helping to shape the next generation of mental health professionals. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including:

Co-Founder, Managing Partner & Medical Consultant: Dr. Sekhar Kommu

Dr. Sekhar Kommu is the medical consultant for Mind Body Connection and the Center for Health Integration. Dr. Sekhar Kommu has been a Family Physician for over 25 years and his approach to patient care has always centered on a holistic approach with a particular focus on patient education. He has a keen interest in education both for clinicians and patients.

After graduating Medical School at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School he finished his Residency at St. Paul Medical Center/Parkland Hospital Program. He then joined a private practice where he established a successful primary care practice. During that time, he also taught at Methodist University Physician Assistant Program, where he served as the Associate Medical Director and also the Program Director, fulfilling his passion for teaching. In the last 25 years, Dr. Kommu has practiced in various clinical settings, including a traditional Primary Care office, Urgent Care clinic, Emergency Room, Inpatient Medicine as well as in Medical Leadership. He is currently working for the VA Medical Center taking care of our Veterans.

His focus in health care in all those settings has always been patient empowerment through understanding. He feels strongly about patients taking ownership and responsibility for their health based on educated decision making and appropriate medical guidance. He believes in the role for medications in good health care, but also believes strongly in the greater importance of lifestyle changes, healthy habits and a fundamental understanding of your own health.

He provides MED Talks at Mind Body Connection and the Center For Health Integration on topics related to health such as diabetes, heart disease, exercise, and other such areas that are broken down into increase fundamental understanding of health and empower our patients.

Head of Admin Operations & Clinical Coordinator: Gretchen Stone

Gretchen began her career 8 years ago in the fitness science industry, teaching water aerobics and conditioning classes at the Warrenton Aquatic and Recreational Facility (WARF). She later expanded her expertise to include spin, cardio, strength, and kettlebell training, and when the WARF closed during the pandemic, she transitioned to working with individual clients to help them reach their health and wellness goals. More recently, she partnered with the Center for Health Integration, bringing her passion for organization, leadership, and client support into her current role as Head of Admin Operations. Gretchen believes in the importance of meeting people where they are and building them up, whether in health, fitness, or through her administrative leadership.

Ashley Schumacher

Ashley is an advanced clinical mental health counseling intern completing her Master’s degree at Divine Mercy University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Social Work from Fontbonne University and has extensive training in trauma care through the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology, where she also served as program manager. Ashley's clinical focus includes developmental and complex trauma, attachment injuries, grief, and family systems work.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Ashley brings a grounded, culturally responsive approach to therapy shaped by her experiences supporting individuals in high-pressure and transitional environments. Her therapeutic style is integrative and relational, drawing from Somatic Experiencing, Gestalt therapy, and crisis response frameworks to support embodiment, safety, and deep healing. Ashley aims to create a compassionate space where clients feel empowered in their healing process.

 Sienna Tolomay

Sienna Tolomay is a doctoral student at The Chicago School at Washington D.C., with a Master’s degree in clinical psychology. She has experience in in-patient and private practice settings, providing psychological services to primarily adults with diverse psychological needs. Her counseling style centers on utilizing research-backed techniques while cultivating a warm, understanding atmosphere that nurtures inner development and self-awareness. She is committed to delivering comprehensive, whole-person care that supports the mental, emotional, and physical wellness of those she serves.

Tiffany Blanco

Tiffany is an advanced doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at Divine Mercy University’s Institute for the Psychological Sciences. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology – Exercise and Movement Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and has also earned a Master of Psychology from Divine Mercy University. She has experience working in a variety of settings with individuals of all ages, abilities, disorders, and conditions. Tiffany has served as a Behavior Specialist in the greater Seattle area school system, volunteered in multiple health-related roles, and worked in a college counseling center, where she provided therapy through a range of modalities, primarily serving young adults with diverse concerns and disorders.

Tiffany has a strong interest in serving underserved, under-acknowledged, and vulnerable populations, with a particular focus on trauma and on working with adult and geriatric clients. She values supporting equitable access to mental health treatment and utilizes assessments to provide clarity and insight. She is committed to offering personalized, client-centered psychotherapy that addresses both the mental and physical needs of her clients.

Ezrah Hickey

Ezrah Hickey is a doctoral student extern from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, D.C., currently training at Mind Body Connection, Inc. He has experience working in private practice settings, conducting neuropsychological assessments, as well as in youth mentorship programs through Alexandria City’s Parks and Recreation Department. Ezrah provides evidence-based therapeutic services to individuals of all ages, addressing a wide range of concerns impacting psychological health and well-being. His approach to mental health is rooted in a holistic and integrative framework, aiming to view each client as a whole person and tailor interventions to meet their unique needs. Drawing primarily from cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic theories, Ezrah collaborates with clients to foster meaningful insight, growth, and lasting change. He is also often joined by his friendly German Shepherd mix, Kodak, who is always happy to sit in on sessions and help create a more calming, welcoming environment for clients. Ezrah’s work is supervised and supported by Dr. Kommu.
